During the late summer / early autumn of 2017,
I was tasked with a challenge, to create an Ambient LP for James and Anna’s Per Musica Ad Astra label.
I’d already been involved with the label previously,
by designing the logo and the 12” record releases.
This was an opportunity I wasn’t going to sleep on,
so I got to work, fast. With some discussion it was realised that I didn’t need to start with a blank page,
but would be cool to explore some already familiar tracks, and strip them back, slow them down even further, take out the beats and so on. By doing this we discovered some deeper sounds and emotions, and bringing some otherwise lost sounds to the fore made it interesting and new. The Other Side concept is reflective of my musical tastes, the other side of the music and me, the possibilities, personal experiences and emotions, and the thoughts of afterlife and loved ones passed.
